The Strategic Commander and Encyclopedic Thinker... Major General Dr. Samir Farag... A military and administrative genius who shaped the nation's glory.

In the history of nations, exceptional figures emerge whose success cannot be confined to a single field; they are fighters on the battlefield, scholars in academic sanctuaries, and innovators in civil administration. Major General Staff Dr. Samir Farag stands as one of the most prominent Egyptian figures who combined the firmness of a commander, the depth of a thinker, and the vision of a strategist, presenting an inspiring success story to be taught to generations.

He grew up in an environment saturated with the spirit of resistance and sacrifice, which shaped his personality early on with a love for redemption and discipline. He joined the Military Academy driven by boundless ambition, graduating to join the Infantry Corps, beginning a professional journey where "leadership" was its permanent title.

What distinguishes the career of Major General Dr. Samir Farag is his astounding academic excellence that made him the focus of global attention. He graduated from the Egyptian Staff College, ranking first with honors. This brilliance prompted the Armed Forces to send him on a mission to the Royal College of "Camberley" in England, one of the most prestigious military and national security colleges in the world.

There, he did not settle for graduating with honors and ranking first in his class; he achieved a historic milestone by being appointed as an instructor at the British College, becoming the first officer from outside NATO and the Commonwealth to hold this position. This served as international recognition of the Egyptian fighter’s genius and his ability to teach the most sophisticated military curricula to Western leaders. He also obtained a fellowship from the Higher War College, ranking first with honors, earned a Master of Military Science with honors, and received the PSC certificate from the Royal College of Camberley in England.

Major General Dr. Samir Farag’s academic success did not stop at military science; he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Ain Shams University, a Diploma in Business Administration from the United States of America, and a PhD on the role of media in preparing the state to achieve Egyptian national security.

He rose through all leadership positions in the Infantry Corps up to the commander of a mechanized infantry division. His duties were not limited to the field; they included working in the Operations Authority and the Military Research Authority. Thanks to his deep expertise, he served as an instructor at the Infantry Institute and the Command and Staff College, and served as a military attaché in Turkey.

Major General Samir Farag held the position of Director of the Office of the Director of Military Intelligence, followed by his most prominent station as Director of the Moral Affairs Department of the Armed Forces, where he contributed to developing national awareness and connecting the people with their army. He was also an active member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces during the events of the January 25 Revolution, participating in making the most difficult historical decisions to protect the state.

Major General Dr. Samir Farag proved that a successful leader innovates in every field. He served as First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism, then took over the management of the Cairo Opera House, which witnessed a major artistic renaissance during his era.

He was then appointed Governor of Luxor, where he authored an administrative epic that transformed the city into an "open museum." He succeeded in removing slums surrounding archaeological areas while providing humane and civilized alternatives for the residents, creating a unique balance between heritage preservation and citizenship rights. He developed the Avenue of Sphinxes, this historical road, to link the Luxor Temple with Karnak, restoring Luxor's luster as the largest open museum in the world, and rebuilt the city’s visual identity, earning wide international acclaim.

Today, he continues his contribution as Chairman and Managing Director of the National Energy and Gas Holding Company (NATENERGY).

Major General Dr. Samir Farag enriched the Arabic library with several valuable books, namely: Papers from My Life, Farewell to Arms, 7 Years in Thebes, Events and Situations, Witness to the October War, Strategy and National Security: Two Sides of the Same Coin, and Personalities in My Life. These are not just books, but important historical documents.

Alongside his writings, he is a regular contributor to major newspapers such as Al-Ahram (Thursday column), Akhbar Al-Youm, Al-Masry Al-Youm (Saturday column), International Politics magazine, Asharq Al-Awsat, and Al-Hayat London, where he analyzes the most complex international issues in a sophisticated yet simple language that reaches the man on the street as well as decision-makers.

Additionally, he is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London (IISS).

The biography of Major General Dr. Samir Farag is the embodiment of sincerity and diligence. He is the leader who accepted nothing but first place as a substitute, and the thinker who harnessed his pen to serve his country's causes.

His story will remain a beacon for everyone who wants to combine strength and science, and discipline and creativity, for the sake of raising Egypt's name high.

The story of Major General Dr. Samir Farag tells us that "specialization" does not mean isolation, and that a true leader is one who can adapt his knowledge to serve his country in any position—whether carrying a rifle in a trench, a pen in an international forum, or a planner in a tourist city. It is an inspiring journey summarized in one sentence: "Sincerity in work is the shortest path to immortality in the nation’s memory."
