Amira Al-Balooshi.. An Icon of Bahraini Creativity.
From the ancient roots of Muharraq to the global stage, the Bahraini author Amira Ahmed Omar Al Balooshi embodies a unique model of a creator who drew her authenticity from the heart of Muharraq to reach international forums with her words. Her ambition did not stop at the corridors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; rather, she believed that the word is a bridge no less important than diplomatic work. Al-Balooshi managed to harmonize the rigor of her profession with the sweetness of literature, transforming her texts into cultural messages that cross borders, proving that Bahraini women are capable of excelling in the fields of administration and literary creativity simultaneously.
Amira's academic journey began in the world of "Business Administration," a field characterized by logic and numbers, but her heart always leaned toward the word. This parallelism between mind and heart was later reflected in her professional career; she moved between major economic and sovereign institutions, from the National Commercial Bank to the Bahrain Petroleum Company "Bapco," reaching the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where her personality was refined in the corridors of international diplomacy.
Amira decided to give the world a chance to hear her first literary voice, releasing "Awtar Amira" (Amira's Strings) at the end of 2016. It consisted of beautiful symphonies in the form of literary texts filled with delicate feelings—some from passing situations and others from imagination—serving as the official announcement of the birth of a writer who possesses her tools with high sensitivity. Ambition did not stop there; it was followed by her second release, "Omniyat Al-Quloob" (Wishes of the Hearts), which came to light at the end of 2018. It blended prose and poetry in both classical and colloquial dialects, written in an interesting style so the reader could live the feelings of many and the wishes of the silent. Thus, it touched the hearts of people in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf states.
Amira was never a traditional employee; she was an ambassador for her country in every sense of the word, both in the literary and practical fields. Amira takes pride in her secondment period at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where she represented her country in global conferences and high-level meetings. She proved that Bahraini women are capable of contributing to the most challenging fields.
This excellence did not go unnoticed. On the occasion of Bahraini Women's Day, she received notable recognition from the Bahraini Council of Representatives in appreciation of her efforts in representing the Kingdom abroad in 2010 during their visit to Abu Dhabi—a moment Amira describes as a "medal of pride" that pushed her to give more.
Perhaps the most beautiful chapter of Amira's story is her passion for spreading knowledge. She launched a unique self-initiative with personal funding called "The Library of Giving." The initiative aimed to spread the culture of reading in public places, where her bookshelves were placed in branches of "Gloria Jean's Coffees" (Saqiyah, Zayed Town, and Arad).
The initiative received great moral support from poets and writers in Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman, and from the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities. Although the global pandemic (Corona) in 2020 caused the closure of cafes and stopped the initiative in its physical location, the "spirit of giving" was not extinguished. At the height of the crisis, in a national and humanitarian gesture, Amira donated her stock of books and the books of her initiative to the "Feena Khair" initiative by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to be distributed to quarantine centers in Hidd, providing "reading therapy" for patients during their most difficult times.
However, true global glory was manifested when the Mexican magazine "Luvina" (affiliated with the University of Guadalajara) chose her collection "Omniyat Al-Quloob" to be translated into Spanish and published at the Guadalajara International Book Fair—the second most important book fair in the world—in 2022. For the words of a daughter of Muharraq to reach Mexico is a victory for contemporary Bahraini literature and a confirmation that creativity knows no borders.
The literary contribution continued with the novel "Al-Qadar Al-Muajie" (Painful Fate), released at the end of 2022. This novel, which dove into social, dramatic, and romantic frameworks and combined feelings of pain, love, disappointment, and loss, did not settle only on library shelves. It was transformed into a radio drama aired on "Qatar Radio" after artistic adaptation by senior Bahraini and Qatari creators, achieving wide public resonance.
This was followed by the book "Between Logic and Emotion," released at the end of 2025, which is a blend of literary texts and purposeful, warm messages that enlighten minds and touch hearts. The goal was to leave a mark and a distinctive impact, with words to be passed down generation after generation.
As usual, Amira enjoyed a wonderful presence from writers, poets, media professionals, and her loving audience at book fairs across the Gulf.
Behind all this brilliance, Amira faced social and professional challenges that were not easy, overcoming with resilience attempts at discouragement from some colleagues and the conservative views of some relatives who believed that women should stay away from the literary scene and international exhibitions and refrain from presenting cultural initiatives.
But Amira's response was always through work and success. She says firmly: "My work and society will not deter me from creativity; rather, it is fuel for my passion. I am convinced that whoever focuses on their goal, God will harness the universe and its creation for them." This support was evident in the words and encouragement of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, who highly appreciated this creative blend. Amira also does not forget the great writer and poet Mr. Ali Abdullah Khalifa, who was always a supporter, and His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Noman Galal, and many actors, media personalities, and high-profile figures.
Amira received several high-level honors, including recognition from the "Bahraini Readers Club" after an inspiring lecture on the difficulties of spreading a reading culture, and appreciation from the Royal Humanitarian Foundation after winning the "My Story" competition, which highlights stories of challenge and success. She was also honored by the Arab Center for Electronic Media of the Arab League for her workshop "Reading to Build Aware Youth," in addition to repeated honors from His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs for her exceptional efforts in organizing major events such as the "Manama Dialogue" and the 33rd Arab Summit.
Today, Amira Al-Balushi is not just an author or an employee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; she is a knight (who loves horse riding) and a traveler in the worlds of the written word. She believes that giving is the essence of life, whether by training university students who still communicate with her in gratitude, or by engaging in volunteer work with the "Live to Give" team.
Amira's journey is an invitation to every Bahraini and Arab woman that reconciling national and professional duty with hobbies and creativity is not only possible but is the path toward the global stage. Amira continues to write to raise the name of the Kingdom of Bahrain high, believing that the honest word is the strongest bridge between peoples.
